Organizing
From 2016 to 2021, I was a volunteer organizer with the Graduate Workers of Columbia (GWC-UAW Local 2110), with which I first became involved shortly before our historic certification vote in December 2016.
In April 2018, I helped to organize a strike to demand the university recognize and bargain with the union, which it had until then refused to do despite GWC having been legally certified in 2017;
In early 2019, I ran for a seat on the GWC bargaining committee and was interviewed by the Columbia Spectator after the election about my slate and our platform;
In January 2020, I was part of a joint delegation with Columbia Postdoctoral Workers (CPW-UAW) that met with U.S. Rep. Grace Meng to discuss our respective contract campaigns and the progress of federal legislation that would support the labor rights of workers in higher education;
In February 2021 I signed on to an open letter to then-Provost Ira Katznelson demanding the university agree to a fair contract with GWC, and subsequently helped to organize another strike in March 2021.
